Contour Projects is a Vancouver-based construction company and licensed residential builder, with our office here. In Vancouver we take on custom homes, duplexes, multifamily and mixed-use buildings, renovations, and tenant improvements.
Our home city
Our Vancouver work ranges from the Pine Crescent, McDonald Street and Alberni Street homes to the Cambie Street mixed-use building, The Home Court Sport Complex and the 88 Supermarket on Kingsway. The City writes its own Building By-law, based on the BC Building Code with Vancouver-specific provisions, covering alterations and changes of use as well as new buildings. Around the Broadway Subway, the 30-year Broadway Plan adopted in 2022 is bringing new homes and job space between Vine Street and Clark Drive. We work out which requirements govern your site before work starts, plan around neighbours and tenants, and a principal remains on the job through to handover.
Building in Vancouver
Vancouver sets its own rules under the Vancouver Charter. In October 2023 the City folded its nine low-density RS zones into one R1-1 zone. On an R1-1 lot, the options include:
- a house with a secondary suite and a laneway house
- a duplex
- a multiplex of three to six strata homes, or up to eight if all are secured rental. The number depends on site size.
If you keep an older character house, the zone also allows infill and conversion options. We settle which route fits your lot, budget and goals before work starts, then manage it from permits to completion: a multiplex or mixed-use building, a new home or a renovation.

Pine Crescent
Residential renovation involving deck and building envelope repairs, complete exterior and landscape redesign, and interior repairs and updates to enhance both performance and aesthetics.
Cambie Street
Change of use, and interior and exterior alterations to a four-storey mixed-use building, including dental and insurance office, residential units, and underground parking.
McDonald Street
Updated the home with a modern kitchen, custom cabinetry, and upgraded living spaces. Bathrooms were fully renovated with contemporary finishes and walk-in showers.
Alberni Street
Residential renovation featuring custom millwork, refined interior finishes, upgraded kitchen and bathrooms, new flooring, and detailed lighting throughout.
The Home Court Sport Complex
Combining six retail units into one, replacing and adding major structural steel beams, and constructing a full sports complex.

Currently under construction, this 22,277 sq.ft. commercial tenant improvement project features upgraded interiors, custom-built elements, and exterior improvements.
